The Art of Persuation vs. Deception
Like in real life, what we read can seem so truthful, and taken as real. And yet, we should make time to verify and investigate any topic or proposal that we come across. No matter what facet of life we read, or see in videos, that seem so possible, we simply accept it. The fact is through some of my interests, especially in world history, I have come across topics covering a certain time period, but with different perspectives. My realizing the first time had me realizing that if I didn’t come across another sources “point of view”, I too would have taken the first journal as solid truth, without realizing that sources sometimes can bring out an emotional outcome from any given topic that can make you feel good while another feel bad. It has become a social maze that cannot be ignored.
In these new times, we can be persuaded in one direction or another, especially when the source has been public (or privately available) for a set period of time. And, at the same time, there are those who are purposely doing it seeking a result that can deceive, and worse, deceive a mass amount of people. Some might wonder, so what do we trust? Well, the reality is that this has been a way of life even before the internet. The internet makes it so much easier to convince millions and in no time at all. But as I stated, there are times in history where masses have been deceived and persuaded to achieve damaging and even deadly results. I can only suggest, you investigate before you act or react; make time to ask others; research other sources, and with it becoming such an art, make time to pull away and find refuge, then come back with a new perspective.
Technology has come so advanced, and at places that happen faster, that we can see so much positive abilities being created, and even I am excited to learn as much as I can to benefit my lifestyle and personal opportunities, only finding my abilities to study and explore has been overwhelmed with real life persuations and deceptions, that even I have to pull myself away, and show interest in all the advances, such as AI and automation. That was also what has me blogging again. It is a return to exploring new possible challenges in what I enjoy.
Advancing with AI and other resource tools
I have been always tinkering with new devices and even Apps, and have had so much amusement in the abilities to put devices that can be controlled with automation, but much of my past few years of enjoyment has been with every tool and device that gets whatever activity done easier. Lately, I have enjoyed two service that offers information by simply requesting it, whether it be on weather forcasts, traffic conditions and alerts, locating merchants and places to stay over night, that I overlooked the other helpful tools and activities they have always offered.
AI sounds like it may help get future activities and projects started by knowing what I want to produce, make the AI create the data forms or document, and then adjust the form to my liking. Typically, these are template ideas created upon request, and as the user, take over, and put it to use. Some AI is getting advanced beyond my comfort level, and so like in real life, I will be using descretion to assure to others that the work I produce are still my own vision and produced by me. I still will explore those products and Apps that can be used to create 95% of work, just to be amused, but I still seek authenticity, and wish to present future projects and activities as my own.
One of the most helpful parts of technology is asking about topics, public and famous people, regulatory rules and procedures, but like I wrote, go find various resources that supports the answers. The ability to get a “third” opinion or resources when with different thoughts that oppose someone else, or even better, when neither of us know the true or best answer, we turn to that device I call the “Dot” or “Display”. It has been enjoyable to have music play at my request, or watch it used as a timer when cooking, better, seek an alternative to a recipe. From mapping, to finding available services along my travels, to simply setting up my route and be informed of alerts along my travels has always given me options in advanced to change to an alternative direction or plan a slight different change in my activities.
I just replaced my old health tracking digital watch with the more advanced watch that does the same tracking and more. This one I can talk to, using that “Dot” service, and have things done, like add an event to my calendar, or make a reminder, and anything I do with the service like mentioned above. It likes to my cellphone, and through the App, it can link to my Calendar, bring up recent emails, and show me the weather. It does depend on my cellphone being within range, and it only shows the Email title, and senders name, but it can open that Email on my phone, and it can also accept an incoming call on my cellphone, but I still need the phone to carry on the conversation. This type of watch has been around for awhile, but I just got to purchase it. For a geek like me to finding something that’s been around might mean the reader may never have known what the watch could do. The only thing the reader has to react to is, have I just persuaded them to go look for one? I can only say it is not a deception, how? Because they should inquire on what I have, ask around, research if it is something they would find useful. That’s right, no sales advertising here, only a chance to have the reader be curious.
Keeping Reality in this world of technology
I watch the younger generation (and even my generation) so caught up, obsessed, and even addicted to the use of their Android or IPod phones, a miniature computer, that creates instant information, taking them away from life around them. It is not for me to say if this is right or wrong, when in real life there are people who live their lives at the favorite “watering hole”, people never missing cable series, documentaries, or talk shows. There are other addictions that we could bring up, but I cannot judge them either. Being “glued” to these devices held in the palm of the hand is so convenient, so informatively entertaining, so distracting, seems vast in population, but it is up to the individual to chose their own way in life. Nothing we can do until they realize it is a problem and asks for help, and only if they can achieve control to “include” this in real life possibilities and achievements.
As a society, we have recognized addictions and continue looking for ways to inform, regulate, and even hold accountable, and even recently “treat” that addiction. The more obvious the problem becomes, society can only prepare way to make the issues informative, and seek solutions for the future generations about approaching any obsession with a sense of doing it in moderation. Maybe it has been overlooked because of the threats that happen hourly and daily, and not just within remote towns or states or regions, it is a world wide problem of scams, thefts, destruction and deception. It is not that the internet is deadly, it is still the human who uses the internet to create these dangers. The internet and technology is a tool, and any comparison to its problems is not technology, but in the real life people who create opportunities of harm through this tool, the same as those who do it in coomunities, and on the streets.
I will continue to promote all these new tools and resources, because all the good opportunities outweigh the tragic and devastating events that occur. Those events were always there, and would have still had some form of destructive outcome, with or without the internet.
