Like that old saying, “One step forward, and two steps back”, I find myself restarting that routine I have mentioned in past blogs. Since 2013 (the whole year), I found myself leaving the opportunity of advancing to Owner Operator, and in the summer of 2014, leaving the truck at home, and becoming a Company over the road driver. It was a necessary objective, since much of my blog time in the three years of Lease Purchase (2009-2013), and Independent Contracting (Jan. 2013-Jan. 2014), was geared to building spreadsheets and workbooks. A series of spreadsheets for different periods of time, and different activities, make up a workbook. Much to say, most of it was hints and concepts, leaving the reader with the task of making sense of their own objectives in spreadsheets to their own ability. The reason was to prevent from ever being misunderstood as an instructor or teacher.
But, almost like jumping in “head first” into the Lease Purchase program, I found getting into the role of Owner-Operator needing more thought and planning, than just advancing to the new role, like I had attempted to. There was support, but the timing was incredibly daunting, and I was exhausted. So, the truck went into mothball stage (it is probably rusting), and I took six months to rethink my purpose in blogging, and the still most talked about “How To” Videos, and also fancied into another computer based project, and wrote a fictional story. It is not published, but has been reviewed by at least one person, and I need to go back, and add detail to one of the chapters, before copyrighting and publishing. I continued with the previous work of building spreadsheets, and moved into Access Database project. That actually was to replace the spreadsheet concept, and develop another form of records keeping. The database becomes the library of finished works that can be used for analyzing and business trends. It also became the current replacement of “data Entry” of daily activities, while building reports, and other useful queries for the current activities.
The database concept is where much of this year and the following years work will take me in this blog. But instead of just expressing concepts and ideas, I will share my current works and activities, to include providing downloadable files to use. Of course, most of it will be related to trucking, but it can apply to any business, records building, and strategy. It is the goal to have all this lead to building and providing products in their simplest forms, and challenge the reader and user to not only use and apply the products, but to advance in their abilities, and change the files to suit their own individual business and personal needs.
Looking back at my work, and before simply making much of it download files, I recognized how advancing the project had become, which would be good if I was doing this for simply me. The work, and files quickly became for the use of lease purchase driving, falling short for a company driver, and stopped, before it could be expressed for owner operators too. So, I am back to driving a company truck, and now developing files for the Independent Contractor, simplifying it for the company driver, and expressing it as a starting point for future owner operators. And yet, the work I am trying to create is to inspire any individual and business, using the trucking industry as simply a theme. I am striving to convince the reader that I am writing about computers, the uses, and practical activities, as a self proclaimed computer geek, and not a truck driver (of over seven years), making work for a specific career or market.
